A recent "Manager's Choice" from Majestic Wine was Moulin-â-Vent 'Les Bruyères' 2006 B. de Monceny; Showing a nose of bitter chocolate, cherries and a wonderfully constructed palate, this Beaujolais could easily be mistaken for a Pinot Noir. It is however, a good example of a Beaujolais cru famed for its fuller style and keeness to age. At this price we're really impressed by its complexity and length.

Made from predominantly Monterey County Chardonnay, this wine has true 'cool climate' personality with bright tropical fruit, a hint of citrus and gentle oak. The palate is expansive, full and creamy with crisp balancing acidity. Fantastic with chargrilled chicken or light fish dishes.

A fine Beaune with a deep, intense nose brim full of strawberry and cherry fruits and a rich, oaky character. Can be enjoyed young for its intense fruitiness or allowed to mature over 3-4 years to gain more complexity. Perfect with game.

Chardonnay di Puglia 2003, Pasqua, at Majestic Wine
The ripe, butterscotch style of this wine is beautifully balanced by an elegant mineral acidity.

Marsannay is often a good source for value red burgundy. Deliciously smooth strawberry fruit flavours marry elegantly with fine tannins and a long earthy finish. Great with roasts and soft cheeses.

A refreshing alternative to Chardonnay, this fresh, intense and full-bodied Verdelho is rich with ripe tropical fruit flavours. Good length and balance with a crisp refreshing finish of citrus and melon notes. The pure fruit flavours are an excellent partner to seafood salads and coconut based curries.

Vincent Bouzereau specialises in producing white Burgundies and this Montagny 1er Cru is a classic. Brilliant gold in colour, the nose shows complex aromas of white blossom, brioche and almonds. Rich and full-flavoured on the palate, with a crisp, lingering finish. Ideal with tuna carpaccio and creamy poultry dishes.

Barbera d'Asti DOC 2005, De Forville, at Majestic Wine Warehouse
From an excellent producer, this is a Barbera that can be drunk now or aged for a couple of years. The twelve months the wine spent ageing in oak barrels has added complexity to the typical qualities of the grape. The nose shows intense cherry aromas and hints of vanilla, which follow through to the crisp, yet smooth palate. An ideal red to drink with anitpasti.

Grange du Midi Grenache 2003, Vin de Pays D'Oc, at Majestic Wine
Deep ruby red in colour coupled with berry fruit aromas on the nose. Soft blackberry fruits are abundant on the palate combined with a long lingering finish.

Catena Barrel Fermented Chardonnay 2006, Mendoza, at Majestic Wine
A blend of grapes from three, high altitude vineyard sties, La Pirámide, Domingo and Adrianna, creating a wine of unique character that has balance, concentration and a strong varietal identity. Showing notes of mango, banana and apple, with a hint of sweet spice and wet stone. Full yet clean on the palate, with pear and fig fruit flavours rounded off with fresh, crisp acidity. Excellent with roast chicken.

Jackson Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2006, Marlborough, at Majestic Wine
A very fine, Marlborough Sauvignon typical of the elegance New Zealand is now famed for. Long fruit flavours redolent of rhubarb and gooseberries overlay a classy mineral texture. At this price this is certainly quite a match for Sancerre. Delicious on its own or with exotic seafood.

A light and refreshing beverage. Recipe idea; take a large jug, add lemon, cucumber, apple and orange, cover with Pimm's and allow to soak. We suggest 3:1 ratio mixer to Pimm's. Many people use lemonade but the addition of tonic water and/or ginger ale really lifts the profile. Serve with ice and garnish with mint. Ideal for the summer.
